Is Fiddle Leaf Fig Toxic to Dogs?
Also known as: Banjo Fig, Fiddleleaf Fig, Ficus Lyrata · Ficus lyrata
What makes it toxic
Ficus latex containing ficin and related irritating enzymes in all green parts. Contact inflames mucous membranes; ingestion inflames the gut.
Warning signs to watch for
Drooling, lip licking, vomiting, mild diarrhea and occasionally skin redness where the dog brushed against a broken leaf or stem.
What to do if your dog eats it
Rinse the mouth, wipe sap off the coat and offer water. Call your vet if vomiting continues or the dog seems in pain; most cases settle within a day.
Common questions
My dog snapped a leaf off and drooled — serious?
Probably just latex irritation. Rinse the mouth and monitor; repeated vomiting or facial swelling means a vet call.
Is the fiddle leaf fig pet-safe if kept high on a shelf?
Out of reach is out of risk. Fallen leaves are the common trap — sweep them up before the dog does.
